About Shanelle

Shanelle Cook (she/her) originally comes from New Mexico. She performed the Beethoven Second Piano Concerto in B-flat major with the El Paso Symphony Orchestra when she was a senior in high school. She earned a BA from Texas Christian University in Piano Performance and a MA from New Mexico State University in Piano Performance. During her time in New Mexico she worked with the Dona Ana Lyric Opera for eight seasons, where she conducted and music-directed various productions.

She moved to Cleveland to attend the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she completed the Professional Studies Program in Collaborative Piano. She completed the course work for a Doctor of Musical Arts but elected not to complete the degree. While there she studied with Anita Pontremoli and Olga Radosavlejvich. She also worked with Opera Cleveland on Tour.

Currently, Shanelle works as a music teacher at Hawken School, is the music director for Church of the Redeemer in Cleveland Heights, and teaches private piano lessons. She was part-time faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music as a pianist for the Prep Department, and she is currently the pianist for the Cleveland Center for Suzuki Studies.

Shanelle has a small family of partner and child and beagles. She has trained the beagles to howl when she plays “Linus and Lucy.” In her spare time, Shanelle likes to walk and hike around the Cleveland area.
