About Lisa

Lisa Goldman retired as Orchestra Director for the Beachwood City Schools for 24 years and district Fine Arts Subject Coordinator for 13. With the goal of creating a positive arts community, numerous students have gone on to major conservatories and a wide range of arts careers. Lisa is currently enjoying her new role as University
Supervisor for Baldwin Wallace University, overseeing and mentoring future music educators while serving on the board for the Ohio String Teachers Association.

 

Mrs. Goldman’s previous teaching experience includes the Suzuki Program at the Cleveland Institute of Music where she was additionally the conductor of the preparatory orchestras, the Suzuki program at Cincinnati College-
Conservatory, String Pedagogy courses at Case Western Reserve University (Department of Music Education), Director of the Suzuki program at the Fairmount Fine Arts Center and Orchestra Director at Cleveland School of the Arts. Her work in Beachwood was featured by the National MENC journal, Teaching Music, entitled, “The Great String Resurgence, Bringing Your Orchestra Program Out of the Shadows.” 2009.

 

Lisa holds a Bachelor of Music in Music Education, and a Masters of Music/ String Pedagogy from Cincinnati Conservatory. In addition to long term Suzuki training and apprenticeship at the Cleveland Institute of Music, Lisa studied Viola and Dalcroze Eurhythmics at Carnegie Mellon University.

 

The 2017 OSTA Teacher of the Year, Lisa has been a clinician, adjudicator and/or speaker at workshops and meetings on a local to national level. Lisa served as a national orchestra mentor for MENC and has authored/published several articles in the American Suzuki Journal with reprints in South America, Canada, the UK
and numerous State and Local organizations. A certified adjudicator for ASATACAP, Lisa is active as a clinician/judge for solo/ensemble contests, large groups and additional events.

 

Lisa is an active musician in NEO. As a violinist she is a current member of the Cleveland POPS Orchestra, Firelands Symphony and Heights Chamber Orchestra. Lisa lives with her husband and their 2 cats, Bacon and Biscuit. She enjoys visiting their 3 fun ‘grown and flown’ children, a conservationist, an (employed) musician and an engineer.
Lisa grew up in a home of professional musicians and enjoys engaging communities through the arts.
